Umaru Kerdereh Bah disappeared shortly after his father, Ibrahim Bah, died in the Northern headquarter town of Makeni, his disappearance a serious source for concern to his immediate family members and loved ones. He was last seen 24th February 2021.
An uncle of Bah said his nephew was supposed to take the esoteric traditional footsteps of his late father, who was an important member of the powerful local Gbaneh Poro secret society.
He explained that Bah did not want to take up his late father’s traditional role, a reason some secret society members forcefully carried him away to be initiated to continue with the family’s traditional heritage; but since he was taken away, Bah has not been seen since.
Because the activities of the Poro secret society are not openly discussed in that part of the country, Bah’s uncle said he is afraid that his nephew may have died or been killed as they are yet to receive any information regarding Bah’s whereabouts.
