The Minister of Sports Ibrahim Nyelenkeh few months back, appointed Charles Junior Bio as the Ambassador for all sports. The role for Junior as ambassador was to assist the ministry to oversee the development of sports in the country.
His job, according to the Sports Minister was a voluntary work and that the Ministry has no budget for him. His position was approved by the President of Sierra Leone.
The Sports Ambassador will source fund to do his job by raising funds from business houses, NGOs and sometimes from the government when the need arises.
His role is also to help solve disputes in the various sports, scout out for players and athletes in the diaspora for national teams.
In this case, Junior directly works with national team’s coaches as he scouts out players and athletes that they want. But Bio said when the FA was presenting national team coaches to the Sports Ministry, they neither inform him, nor invite him to be part of the program.
Notwithstanding, he said he has no problem with them as he expressed hope that they will not repeat the mistake again as they are all working in the interest of developing sports.
The Sports Ambassadors office worked in collaboration with the Leone Stars Team Manager to donate foods to vulnerable football clubs as a help to fight the COVID19 deceases.
He went on that they are preparing to do similar help to other sports. He assured football fans that he will go all out to convince Sierra Leonean born players and athletes in the diaspora to represent their country in international competitions.
