Members of Parliament on Thursday March 30th 2023 ratified 50M Euro agreement for Access to Energy.
Presenting the bill to members of Parliament, the Minister of Finance Sheku Fattah Mahdi Bangura said that the 50 million Euro Grant agreements is to improve renewable energy which is 8 megawatt for towns and villages and for about four hundred people.
He said that the agreement will strengthen strategic plan in the energy sector and it will provide jobs for women and young people.
Chairman of Finance Committee Hon Francis Amara Kaisamba said that the agreement is not controversial, noting that government wants to provide reliable and sustainable energy for the people of this country in towns and villages across the country.
Hon Lahai Marah said that they are supporting this agreement because it is a grant and that it will transform the lives of four hundred people in villages and towns.
Hon Ibrahim Kamara said that this agreement has to do with transforming energy for Sierra Leone in 2023, pointing out that the government wants to restore energy in the district headquarter towns and increase electricity generation from 36 to 40%.
Hon Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella pointed out that they are focusing on renewable energy for social development particularly in health and education but that the issue of the tariff on the solar is still high.
The Acting Leader of Opposition Hon Hassan A. Sesay said for parliament to ratify this agreement will be good.
The Acting Leader of Government Business Hon Bashiru Silikie said that there is lot of confidence that international partners have given to the government, noting that the agreement will transform the lives of women and children.
