Mohamed Kallon has officially been appointed as the new head coach of Sierra Leone’s national football team, the Leone Stars, as confirmed by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) in a press release. The SLFA technical committee recommended Kallon’s appointment to replace Amidu Karim, and he is set to begin preparations for the World Cup qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau and Egypt next month. The SLFA also announced that Kallon’s official unveiling will take place at a press conference on a date to be announced.
While the announcement has been met with widespread approval from fans, both locally and abroad, there is significant interest in who Kallon will select as his backroom staff. Kallon has previously worked alongside his two elder brothers, Musa and Kemokai Kallon, at FC Kallon. Both are qualified CAF coaches, with Musa holding a CAF License A and Kemokai a CAF License C. Musa has a notable coaching background, having previously worked with the Leone Stars and taken the U-17 team to the World Cup. He has also coached several premier league clubs in Sierra Leone.
It is widely speculated that the SLFA will unveil Kallon’s backroom staff, including Musa and Kemokai, at the same press conference. However, as of now, there have been no official updates on the selection of his assistant coaches.
