Mighty Blackpool Football Club have set their sights on strengthening their squad with up to eight new signings following a crucial 3–1 victory over Kamboi Eagles that lifted them out of the relegation zone.
The win, recorded on Sunday, 1st February 2026, at the SLFA Academy Field in Freetown, marked a turning point for the former Premier League giants, who had spent most of the season battling near the bottom of the table.
Going into the match, Mighty Blackpool were rooted in 18th position with just 11 points from 12 matches. Fully aware of this, the team delivered a determined performance that paid off just before halftime when Umaru Jalloh calmly converted a penalty in added time (45+2 minutes) to give Blackpool a deserved lead.
The goal appeared to boost Blackpool’s confidence, and they returned from the break with renewed purpose. Barely three minutes into the second half, Ibrahim Kamara doubled the advantage in the 48th minute, putting the Eagles under serious pressure. The dominance continued, and in the 67th minute Mohamed Lamin Turay struck Blackpool’s third goal, effectively sealing the contest.
Kamboi Eagles managed to pull one back close to stoppage time, but it proved to be no more than a consolation as Blackpool secured their third win of the season. After 13 matches, the club’s record now stands at three wins, five draws, and five defeats.
Speaking after the match, Mighty Blackpool head coach Musa Jalloh described the victory as “vital,” noting that it finally moved the club out of the relegation zone where they had remained since the start of the campaign.
“This win is very important for us. It has given the players belief and lifted the pressure,” Musa Jalloh said. “Now our focus is to strengthen the team during the second transfer window.”
He revealed that the club is targeting the signing of eight new players, adding that negotiations are already at an advanced stage.
“We have identified the players we need, and we are almost 90 percent done with the deals. Some players who are not part of our plans will be released to make room,” he added.
Mighty Blackpool will next face Bullom Stars at the Approved School Field in Portee, Freetown, a fixture that could further distance them from relegation danger.
Meanwhile, at the top of the Premier League table, Bai Bureh Warriors lead on goal difference with 24 points, level with Star Sport Academy. Old Edwardians sit third with 21 points, while Bo Rangers and FC Kallon occupy fourth and fifth positions respectively with 20 points each.
Defending champions East End Lions hover just above the relegation zone on goal difference, tied on 13 points with Diamond Stars, who currently lead the drop zone. Also battling relegation are Wilberforce Strikers and Luawa FC with 12 points apiece, and Abacha City with 11 points.
