George Wyndham, a legend in Para Table Tennis, died living behind unfinished projects in Para Sports. George represented Sierra Leone as a professional Table Tennis player in different international competitions around the world.

He competed for Sierra Leone in four consecutive summer Paralympic Games. In 2016, he represented Sierra Leone in Para Table Tennis competition in Rio, Brazil. In 2020, he represented Sierra Leone in the Tokyo, Japan Paralympic Games in Table Tennis. George changed from table tennis to Javelin throw F57 for the Men’s event and ended in 11th position in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

In 2022, he represented Sierra Leone in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and went up to the quarter-final stage. Before the Commonwealth Games, George attended the GAPS Camp in Birmingham, where he provided athletes with access to additional skills, knowledge, and resources, supporting the development of inclusive sports pathways to promote social change in sports and local communities.

In his tribute to the late athletes, the NOC President Prince Vandy Sualley described him (George) as a legend in Para Sports.

He went on to say that George among all other sports, table tennis was in his DNA as he went all out to take disables from the street to come and play table tennis.

Prince went on to say that George always gave them the courage that disability is not inability and that there are several things to do like the able people rather than to beg on the street. During training, he said George always challenged able athletes in table tennis competitions.

George, he said, always said to him that he would be the first to win gold for Sierra Leone in either the Paralympic Games or the Commonwealth Games.

George, he said, was more than a competitor as he was encouraging the others to take sports seriously as a career. His contribution in sports, he said, opened doors for the present and the next generation of athletes with a special reference to para sports in Sierra Leone. Sports Family members will not just mention his ability by his medals, but also his contributions to developing para sports.

Prince went on to say that George will be missed by his colleague athletes, coaches, and the entire sports family in Sierra Leone and abroad.

With all this, Prince said it is sad that he passed on without fulfilling his promise of winning gold for his country, Sierra Leone.

Prince admonished his family to mourn like believers and assured them that they would be close to the Paralympic Association to render any help to the family members.
