Few weeks ago, FIFA disbursed COVID19 fund to help their members in the world. They disbursed $1.3M to the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).
In Sierra Leone, the FA disbursed Le96M to each District FA for the development of the game. Among them, Bombali District Football Association (BDFA) received $10,000 (Le96M) for the development of the game.
They (National FA) told each District FA to write a project proposal for the fund. When BDFA received the money, several fans said they should share the money among football clubs and other members. Some say they should repair the dilapidated stands at the Wusum Mini Stadium.
But the BDFA executive decided to build a new dressing room and a conference hall at the stadium. The executive said they are aware of the poor condition of the stands but say the money they have will not repair the stands.
But even with that decision, the fans said they should have repaired the old dressing room instead and use part of the money to start the repairs of the stands.
A member of the executive told SALONE TIMES Sports that they need a place to hold pre-match meetings with clubs or national teams with match officials.
He went on that they find it difficult in the previous international matches which they hosted recently to hold pre-match meetings
Based on that, he said they want to engage in things that are vital to host international competitions.
He outlined that they already have a standard artificial turf pitch in Makeni. He said they have one of the best hotels in the country.
All this, he said are some of the requirements to host international tournaments but say they are not enough.
For now, he said they need a standard dressing room with showers. They are going to renovate the old dressing rooms later to be use by referees and for office.
He said hence they have started the project they are sure of getting help from the government, the FA and business houses to upgrade the stadium to FIFA standard level.
