Following the SALONE TIMES publication on the alleged sale of the Hasting Airfield in Freetown, the government of Sierra Leone ordered an urgent investigation into the Airfield.

In fact, the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Lands set up a Sub-committee to investigate claims by individuals and corporate bodies for ownership of a piece of land in and around the Hastings Airfield in September last year.

“The attention of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation has been drawn to claims and counter claims by individuals and corporate bodies to ownership of piece and parcels of Land in and around the Hastings Airfield. The general public is hereby informed that the Government has set up a Cabinet Sub-committee chaired by the Chief Minister to investigate all such claims for Cabinet consideration,” the Transport Ministry said in the statement.

Added: “Consequently, all those person(s) that are currently engaged in developing any portion of the piece and parcels of the Hastings Airfield should suspend all such works/activities until the Sub-committee submits its Report and decisions taken thereon by the Cabinet.”

As such the Government of Sierra requested that all claimants to any piece and parcel of Land at the Hastings Airfield must submit their relevant documents to the Minster of Lands, Housing and Country Planning.

Surprisingly SALONE TIMES Visited the said airfield and saw a massive structure being constructed allegedly by Lebanese Businessman Ahmed Mackie.

The structure according to sources is for a store and a factory and the Lebanese had earlier settled the Lorry Park that was at the airfield and other people squatting in the airfield.

The government of Sierra Leone is yet to talk to Sierra Leone about whether the airfield has finally been sold, leaving Freetown with no airfield any longer.
