It was a night of recognition, prestige, and celebration of journalistic excellence as SALONE TIMES Senior Reporter, Sahr Ibrahim Komba, emerged as one of the biggest winners at the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and Independent Media Commission (IMC) Media Excellence Awards 2025/2026, held at the Wusum Hotel in Makeni.

In a remarkable display of excellence, Komba clinched two of the ceremony’s most coveted honors, Outstanding Reporting on the Environment and Best Reporter on Education, solidifying his status as a leading voice in Sierra Leone’s media landscape.

The atmosphere at the ceremony was electric as journalists from across the country gathered to celebrate impactful storytelling and professional brilliance. Among them, Komba stood out for his fearless, insightful, and socially impactful reporting that continues to shape national conversations.

These awards are more than just accolades; they are a powerful endorsement of Komba’s relentless pursuit of truth, his dedication to amplifying underreported issues, and his commitment to journalism that drives change.

Chairman of the Awards Committee, Dr. Francis Sowa, praised the winners for setting a high standard in the profession. He revealed that the selection process was intense and uncompromising, with entries undergoing rigorous scrutiny to ensure they met the highest levels of credibility, originality, and professional excellence.

According to Dr. Sowa, the winners distinguished themselves through hard work, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to public interest journalism.

“These stories promote development, raise public awareness, and contribute significantly to national development,” he emphasized.

For Komba, the moment was both humbling and motivating. In an interview following the ceremony, he described the recognition as a call to push even further in telling stories that matter.

“This inspires me to work even harder,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to impactful journalism and ethical reporting.

In a deeply emotional gesture, Komba dedicated his awards to women and children in underserved communities, voices he believes must never be ignored despite the hardships they face.

However, he did not shy away from addressing challenges within the profession. He raised concern over the increasing reluctance of some public officials, particularly political figures, to engage with journalists, warning that such actions threaten transparency, accountability, and the public’s right to know.

Komba also expressed heartfelt appreciation to his Editor, Thomas Dixon, and Managing Editor, Donald Theo-Harding, whose guidance and support have played a vital role in his journey.

As the curtains closed on a memorable night, one message rang clear: Sahr Ibrahim Komba is not just winning awards; he is redefining impactful journalism in Sierra Leone. His work continues to inform, challenge, and inspire, marking him as a force to watch in the years ahead.
