The executive of the Commonwealth Games Association SL (CGA) on Tuesday 28th July 2020 launched and updated the media on the Commonwealth Games which will be hosted in Birmingham in 2022.
Before the press conference, the NOC executive had initially engaged the media about the effects COVID-19 has caused on all sporting activities all over the world.
This, they said the Commonwealth Games was not speared in the ramification, athletes training and the official functioning of sporting organs have been drastically affected.
Nonetheless, the leadership and executive have been working relentlessly to make sure that the Birmingham Games goes ahead unhindered.
They went on that efforts have been made to work with other international sporting associations to reschedule their programs.
In respect of the above, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has made decisions of the dates the Birmingham Games shall take place.
In this respect, there are schedule activities that will take place until the games happen and the activity and the press conference was just one of them.
Notwithstanding, the executive said they will continue to engage the media as when they receive the information from the CGF.
The aim of the press conference they said is to join the Commonwealth Games Federation family to lunch the Birmingham 2022 “TWO YEARS TO GO” program which was also launched on Tuesday, 28th July 2020 in Birmingham.
The launching was organized under the leadership of the president of the CGF, Dame Loius Martin, Her executive and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Local Organizing Committee, the CGA SL said they received a letter from CGF about their intention for Tuesday 28th July 2020 a reason they said they too are engaging the media to let the people know about the above activity.
Apart from engaging the media, the Commonwealth Games Association said they will use their social media platforms throughout the day to highlight that because from last Tuesday there are only 730 days left until the Games begin.
They also used the opportunity to inform the media and the public about the official venue of two of their sports which are the Basketball which also includes Wheelchair Basketball and Beach Volleyball, one of the sports that was added to the program last year.
The new venue and details of the above sports will be confirmed next week they said. The President of CGA SL told the media about their first function with the new National Sports Authority (NSA).
He said NSA gives direction to sports. He told the media that in reality the Commonwealth Games is where they go with large contingent but say in future it will be on qualifications except for few disciplines. He said he will remain as a member of the Commonwealth Games Association until 2022 for the Games.
