Sierra Leone retired players at home and abroad have commended the FA for the appointment of local coaches for the various national teams. According to Paul Kpaka, former Leone Stars and Kamboi Eagles player now a coach base in Belgium, they the retired players have been advocating for this for quite a long time.
He went on that they are happy that the government too has agreed to allow the coaches to sign three years contract.
But Paul said the contract should be a lucrative and well-structured contract. He said if it is not equivalent to what they have been paying foreign coaches let it be close to it.
“We don’t want to see the scenario where in a coach will work and struggle to get pay at the end.” he said.
Paul said like the Minister has said the coaches should be giving free hand to do their selection of players.
But warned the coaches that there should be no barrier in their scouting and selection of players.
The coaches, he said should work as one and make good use of the opportunity that has been given to them so that the FA and the government will not reverse to hire foreign coaches.
As fans eager for the game to resume, Paul warned that Coronavirus is real and that even they in countries with proper medical facilities have to use face masks, wash their hands regularly with social distance before they address their players.
He went on that they play their matches behind closed doors with no fans present. Paul said this can’t work well in Sierra Leone as clubs highly depend on gate taking to run the club.
Europe too he said clubs find it difficult playing without gate takings. He called on all to patient and go by what the medical experts have advised.
