In line with the International Cricket Council (ICC) mandate for each cricket-playing nation to grow participation within a specified timeframe, Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) has set an ambitious target of reaching 100,000 participants in 2026.

To achieve this goal, CSL management has planned a development seminar scheduled for Saturday, 17th January 2026, at the St. Edward’s Secondary School Hall, where growth strategies for the 2026 season will be mapped out. During the seminar, participants will critically review CSL’s 2025 achievements, failures, and challenges, with the aim of improving future planning and delivery.

CSL is targeting boys and girls from schools and communities nationwide. As part of the strategy to reach the 100,000-participant mark, the federation will continue the training of Physical and Health Education (PHE) teachers, with the aim of increasing their number to 1,000 teachers. These teachers will, in turn, train pupils in their respective schools, working closely with CSL coaches and coordinators.

Meanwhile, CSL coaches and coordinators will also conduct community-based training programmes, focusing on introducing young participants to the game. Older participants will be enrolled in coaching courses to enable them to manage and develop community teams. These initiatives will lead to the formation of school and community teams for both boys and girls.

A few days ago, the ICC Manager for Women’s Cricket, Snehal Pradhan, showered praise on Cricket Sierra Leone for the successful execution of the ICC Women’s Week in the country. She expressed her admiration in an email to CSL, requesting further details on how the programme achieved such success.

In 2025, over 6,000 girls from ten schools across six regions were registered for the ICC Women’s Week activities, which lasted four days nationwide. The programme involved 40 ICC-certified development officers who delivered introductory cricket programmes. Highlights of the activities were broadcast on ICC TV during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup match between India and England.
