Deputy Leader of Government Business 1 Hon Bashiru Silikie has accused the Logistic Solutions and Services (LSS), the company doing Cargo Tracking Note for Sierra Leone, of unlawful excess charges.

Hon Bashiru Silikie gave a motion of notice that currently, containers that have been shipped are being fined $1000 despite the stipulated amount they pay for their tracking by Logistic Solutions and Services Ltd.

Hon Silikie said that they have an agreement with LSS that every container tracked shall be charged the sum of Le5,000, but that there is no law governing LSS to fine importers US$ 1.000.

He made a motion that the committee on Transparency and Accountability investigate LSS, asking why they are fining importers the sum of US$ 1.000 even after paying the normal Le5.000 and refund all the money they have unlawfully collected.

On another note, Hon Silikie informed the Speaker that despite the government giving concessions to importers of cement, and that there are people who even told them that they should give them one year grace period, and after that, they will start to manufacture cement, but that has not been the case.

“Now we are seeing a massive increment in the price of cement,” he said, stating that he has also given a notice that the Finance Committee and the Public Account Committee investigate all agreements that have been signed with concession and to inform the House of Parliament about all cement companies that exist in Sierra Leone that are producing cement in the country.

“They cannot get a concession and continue to add cement prices. This is a notice. I have forwarded it to the Clerk of Parliament,” he stated.
