Members of the Poro society in Yamaha, Port Loko Distrrict, Northern Sierra Leone are in a mad hunt for one Abdullahi Kan. Abdullahi was born on the 25th December, 1995.
According to a close source who prefers anonymity said the late father of Abdullahi Kan, Abu Kan was the head of the poro society died in October at the village Yamaha, Northern Sierra Leone. As customs demands our source went on to say the heir to the throne should be his eldest son and this happens to be Abdullahi Kan.
The elders, according to our correspondent, immediately summoned Abdullahi Kan to a family meeting in order to prepare his mind for the initiation and the subsequent burial of his father later on that day. Immediately, Abdullahi was informed about this, he vehemently and open refuse to be part of that society.
An elder of the Poro society, who spoke to our correspondent on grounds of anonymity, noted that the ceremony will involves different ritual processes, involving blood and other ritual related activities in the middle of the sacred bush.
‘’But the controversy that has arise is that Abdullahi should as a matter of tradition be first initiated into the Poro Society before assuming the throne of his late father “ our source further pointed out .
Amadu further noted that he knows Abdullahi his nephew to be a very fervent Christian who could not associate himself with such evil traditional practices but the Poro Society members are in desperate search of Abdullahi whose continued absence to fill this sacred responsibility could amount to problems between the society members and their ancestors.
However, on the 7th October, 2022 about midnight members of this society went and attacked the door of Abdullahi. The requested him to open the door but he refused to open, they then bang the door, rush in and entered and captured him. They escape with Abdullahi to the bush and then tied his hands and feet. He spent the whole night in the bush. Fortunately the next morning, his hands and feet were loose which help him to escape from that dreadful scene, he fled and went into hiding.
Since the 8th of October, 2022 Abdullahi went into hiding his family has been subjected to constant harassment and intimidation with a view to produce him to come home and take over his late father’s role.
It is against this backdrop that we as a family had made an official Police report of harassment and threat to our lives.
Abdullahi is still on the run for fear of being initiated into the poro society.
