The Planned Parenthood Association Sierra Leone (PPASL) on Tuesday 25th August 2020, Organized a one training with persons with Disability on sexual reproduction health and use the of family planning at the Pademba Road Disabled camp in Freetown.
The Director of Program Thiam Saidu said that Planned Parenthood Association of Sierra Leone is a local leading organisation in the provision of sexual and Reproductive health and Right services in Sierra Leone.
He said that in marking the 61st anniversary of their association they really want to see how they can expand their services further and also sign a Memoradum Of Understanding with marginalized groups and also train service providers among the marginalize groups so that they can increase accessibility, increase in demand creation in the provision of sexual and Reproductive health and Right services in Sierra Leone.
He noted that they engage persons with Disability at the Pademba Road camp in order to provide both short term and long term family planning services sexual and Reproductive health services.
He explained that some of the short term services include providing contraceptive pills and the long term is the provision of implant commonly known as captain band.
Noting that during the provision of the services they are going to collect data and provide follow up services because some of the service they are going to provide have side effects, if any of the client that have access the services have any challenge than they can refer that person to their clinic.
He explained that they have four channels of the provision of services which includes statics clinics, outreach clinics, provisions of services through clinics and provision of services through community based service providers.
He noted that they engaged the marginalize groups in order to train the client so that they can be able to provide services for themselves because some of the finds that they got from one of the recent report that have been published is that they feel free when they access family planning services specifically from their colleagues.
He added that they want to see that the family planning services is accessible and very effective and also for them to achieve their objectives they have signed a Memoradum Of Understanding with concern for disability women and children and they are going to support them with logistics and other items that will enable them to play the coordinate role between them and the persons with disability.
The Chairlady Concern for Disability Women and Children Esther Kallon expressed thanks and appreciation to Planned Parenthood Association of Sierra Leone for their visit which among other things has enlightened them on the use family planning.
She explained that they were happy for the training and the donation of contraceptive IPill that was being given to them at free cost and their intervention is very timely.
