The whole World commemorates Cleanup Day on the 19th September 2020 this year. In Sierra Leone the executive of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Commemorate the day with a cleaning exercise on the street of the NOC headquarter in Freetown. In the cleaning exercise they involve the petty traders and the youths on the street. The executive also invites the Minister of Environment to grace the occasion. Also among the invitees were representatives from the Environment Protection Agency and representatives from the various Olympic sports in Sierra Leone. In his statement the President of the National Olympic Committee Dr. Patrick Coker said they were mandated by the Africa National Olympic Committee Association (ANOCA) in Africa to let all their members be part of the commemoration of the World Cleanup Day. Despite been the NOC President he said as a Medical Dr. he believe a dirty environment encourages mosquitos to breed and other deceases will be also present there. He went on that this year they decided to clean up their own environment as the saying goes charity begins at home. Dr. Coker urged all to let the cleaning not just be today but to be a daily basis activities. Professor Foday Jaward the Minister of Environment commends the executive and the entire NOC members for commemorating this very important day. He said more so when most people only knows NOC for sports activities. But he said even in sports they needs clean environment to do sports activities. He went on that the mandate of his Ministry is to protect the environment in the country. Professor Jaward said his Ministry is embarking on planting trees nationwide as the trees gives out oxygen which the human being briefs in and the trees will also prevent erosion. The Minister calls on all to follow the footstep of NOC to help maintain a clean environment.
