A Liberian national Morrison Freeman has been declared wanted by the Sierra Leone Police for allegedly mobilizing youth groups in the capital city of Freetown to engage in violent protest that leads to the death of 6 police officers and other citizens nationwide.

Morrison who migrated to Sierra Leone at age 6 during the rebel war was staying with his parents at the refugee camp in Waterloo before the demise of his parents. When he lost both parents he had no option but to move to the capital city in Freetown. He attended schooling from primary to university in Sierra Leone.

However, due to many economic constraints, Morrison had no option but to move in and live with one of his friends who has been alleged to be the gang leader of the August 10 riot.

It could be recalled that on the 10th of August 2022 citizens in the North and Western Parts of Sierra Leone stormed the streets of Freetown, Makeni, and Lungi, demonstrating against the government for the hardship, high cost of living and the rapid inflation the country is facing.

Before the August 10th demonstration there were messages on social media calling on all Sierra Leoneans to sit at home on the 8th and 9th and take to the streets on the 10th of August to demonstrate against the government and to inform the international community that they are tired with what is happening in the country.

In a telephone interview with this medium, Morrison Freeman who is presently in hiding said after the protest an OSD police officer who has been constantly harassing & threatening his life for having an affair with his finance (the mother of his son) along with his colleagues identified me together with my friend as part of the protest. Their names and pictures were published as wanted.

‘Some other people were arrested but I and my friend managed to escape to another location, the police and military personnel were also raiding me there every night to the extent that I was nearly caught, and since my life was under threat, I could not risk it. When I remembered the murder of Hassan Bangura popularly known as Evangelist Samson by some armed police and military who shot him from the back at a mini pub, I was left with no option but to run for my life and go into hiding’.

Morrison Freeman is still at large and afraid to return to his country for fear of losing his life or being arrested for crimes he did not commit
