The Mayoral Candidate of the ruling Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP) for Freetown Municipality has refuted claims that he is bigotry.

Gento-Kamara made this statement after a video making rounds on social media in which he was seen making statements tantamount to religious bias.

Gento-Kamara explained that he has nothing against Christians and that his statement was taken out of context as he never intended to hurt anybody.

He pointed out that his wife Tuma Jabbie Gento Kamara and his mother are Christians, stating that in fact, his mother is an ordained Pastor.

His campaign team stated that Mohamed Gento Kamara represents both religious and tribal tolerance which Sierra Leone has been widely acclaimed for.

“As a devout Muslim, he is married to a Christian wife. Even growing up as a child, Mohamed Gento Kamara’s late father was a Muslim and his mother is not only Christian but also now an ordained Pastor. It is inconceivable that anyone would ascribe religious bigotry to Mohamed Gento Kamara,” the Campaign Team emphasized.

That during his full remarks to the Muslim

congregation, he encouraged them to reach out to their Christian brothers and sisters without

any religious barrier which according to them is evident by the fact that in recent months Mohamed Gento Kamara has visited several Churches and Mosques to worship and patronize various events.

“Additionally, Mohamed Gento Kamara is a symbol of ethnic diversity. His father is a Temne, his mother is a Limba and his wife is a Mende. Throughout his business and social life, many of his friends and acquaintances are Krios with whom they have shared an enduring bond,” they added.

They said that any attempt to represent Mohamed Gento Kamara as a tribal bigot is not only misplaced but motivated by political desperation.

They noted that Mohamed Gento Kamara remains committed to promoting religious and political tolerance and wished to assure Freetonians that his campaign for the Mayorship of Freetown City Council will continue to focus on the issues that matter to Freetonians.
